I’ve had trouble writing description. I started drawing landscapes, figuring that might help me actually describe places in my fiction… Has it help? Jury is still out. But here are the resulting dream-scapes.

I Could Finish Writing My Novella… OR…

Procrastination Stage 4: Design a Cover (that will never be used) for an Unfinished Work

Let’s hope this illustrative phase isn’t fatal – good thing I at least have some more of the novella written by hand. Plus a spreadsheet. Two spreadsheets. Two color-coded spreadsheets. A non-linear writer’s best friend!

Blogging Confession

I haven’t blogged in… a long time. Every year around New Years I think, maybe this is the year that I will transform into that cool chick with a blog. I am getting better at personal¬† writing though! All thanks to an amazing personal essay class at NC State – where I’m a grad student.

I love the program so far! At first I went through a paranoid phase, why is everyone this friendly? I’m a Texan, I know friendly, but we’re not that friendly. Is everyone in Raleigh a part of a hive mind that is luring me in with kindness only to later eat my internal organs and fill my skin-sack with a parasite from outer space? Well, not yet, anyway…

If I do end up writing some awesome nonfiction, the folks in NC tell me that it’s the kind of thing you sell and that you don’t give it away for free. So lets hope I get one day post of a link to something published and bitchin’…

So Close, So Far

Nearly done with apps! I only have one more to go – School of the Art Institute of Chicago. It’s a bit of a mystery. After that I’m taking a long break. Just kidding, soon, it’s back to work…

But tomorrow is a New Year! Big things ahead for everyone.

I’m looking forward to getting back to writing rather than writing about writing or schools for writing. Plus, there’s always work to be done in Dallas. Ending child homelessness one family at a time. Yep, it’s going to be another hardcore year.

Look, I’m blogging now – that’s one resolution already in the bag.

New Website Design

I am happy to be launching my new design! Hoping this blog works okay – it’s so hard to understand how all the coding will work!

Currently in Boston with family working on grad school applications and being a bum. I’m so glad to have the chance to redesign the site with iWeb being discontinued. I even have a gallery on my Design page! Only took me a couple of hours…

I generally don’t blog too much as a rule at the risk of taking too much time out of creative work/job stuff/app stuff.

Revisions

The most exciting news so far – I fully revised my play WHARPED; How to Build a BOMB. It’s a totally new work now, and I’m really proud of my rewrites.I think that since I’ve worked on The Translators, I have grown as a writer, and now I was able to give the play the focus/balance it needed.

I am also almost done with grad school apps! So close, yet so far…

A few more tweaks on the website. More coming soon.
